People of The Pre-Contact Americas Inca Module-Module Making Workshop:
canvas module/content development training
This is a multi-week training workshop designed for faculty which I completed at the beginning of my employment at Touro University. The aim of this training is to teach faculty how to develop effective and complex educational content within the Canvas learning management system, with members of the university’s instructional design team providing direct feedback on an array of submitted content. I used this workshop as an opportunity to test my skills as an instructional designer, creating a module on the Inca in what would be one of the final sections of a course on the pre-contact native peoples of the Americas (a topic which my archaeological background allowed me to act as both the ID and SME for). Essentially, given this module’s placement towards the very end of a course and the fact that its topic, when taught at the post graduate level, necessitates learners be evaluated on their ability to understand how the Inca relate to older civilizations from the same region, I forced myself into a situation in which my ability to create a high caliber educational experience would be as reliant on my capacity to create an effective course as it would be on my content development skills. Given the feedback received from the instructional designers running the workshop, I more than succeeded in developing a high caliber educational experience.
